About Us
- Choice Dining Since 1929 -
Herbert Hoover had just been elected our 31st president, television was on the verge of discovery, Amos ' n Andy had 'em laughin' in front of the radio and folks were snappin' their fingers to "Happy Days are Here Again"…
The year was 1929, and Frederico "Rick" Getmor opened the doors to his own little bit of history…his own "Rick's Café". So, in the back room of the old Getmor family service station, with a few of Mama's recipes and a dream, he began his venture.
And so it goes that when the local folks would stop by the station for the usual tune-up or tire change, they would stay for a bite…because as legend has it, Rick could bake up the heartiest home-cooked pizza this side of Venice.
In fact, when word spread of Rick's fabulous fixin's, people would come from miles around for a taste…and, of course, a story…for, you see, although Rick was a man of many talents, his true love was the open road, and tales of him and his 2-wheeled, gas-powered companion zigzagging across exotic destinations like Paris (Texas that is), Belfast (I mean Maine) and Rome (that would be Illinois), could keep a person spellbound for hours.
So if you're around these parts with an empty stomach and an open ear, stop in at Rick's…for in his humble establishment there's always room at the table and a story to be told…
